The Delhi High Court Friday acquitted former TV anchor and producer Suhaib Ilyasi in his wife’s murder case.

A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel allowed the appeal of Ilyasi challenging his conviction and life imprisonment for killing his wife, Anju, 18 years ago.

Ilyasi’s daughter Aaliya, who was present at the time of pronouncement of the verdict, expressed happiness and said she always had trust in her father.

“I am very very happy. I am not able to express myself much right now. For all this while, we were silent about it because the judgement was yet to come. We have suffered a lot but I trust my father completely and I had always trusted him,” she said.

The trial court had on December 20, 2017 sentenced Ilyasi, who had shot into limelight after hosting TV crime show – ‘India’s Most Wanted’, to life term for stabbing his wife to death, saying he “committed murder and gave it a colour of suicide”.

Anju Ilyasi was rushed to a hospital on January 11, 2000 with stab wounds she received at her East Delhi residence. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Ilyasi was arrested on March 28, 2000. Charges were framed against him in the case after his sister-in-law and mother-in-law alleged that he used to torture Anju for dowry.

Over 300 mn children not in school: UNICEF

Over 300 million children globally between the age of five and 17 years of age were not in school.

More than one-third of them, or about 104 million, are in countries affected by conflict or disaster, the report titled “A future stolen: young and out-of-school” revealed on Wednesday.

Additionally, it said one in five young people between 15-17 years old in countries affected by conflicts and disasters have never even entered any school and two in five have never completed primary school.

“When a country is hit by conflict or disaster, its children and young people are victimized twice,” said Henrietta Fore, Unicef Executive Director.

“In the near term, their schools are damaged, destroyed, occupied by military forces or even deliberately attacked, and they join the millions of young people out of school, and as the years progress they seldom return.

“In the long term they — and the countries they live in — will continue to face perpetuating cycles of poverty,” she said.

By current trends, the number of 10 to 19 year-olds will rise to more than 1.3 billion by 2030, an increase of 8 per cent, the report said.

Providing this future workforce with quality education and better employment prospects will yield greater economic and social dividends.

With less than 4 per cent of global humanitarian appeals dedicated to education, the report calls for more investment in quality education where children and young people can learn in a safe environment, from pre-primary to upper-secondary, in countries affected by complex humanitarian emergencies and protracted crises.

It said that by current trends, poverty remains the most significant barrier to education globally with the poorest primary school age children four times more likely to be out of school compared to their peers from the richest households.

5 Basic Guidelines to Maintain Your Car

car 2.png

Here is a five-point guide to car maintenance for the millennial.

1. Performance is Prime

  • Delivering solid performance is one of this generation’s best traits. To ensure that their car do the same, it is important to change the engine oil on a frequent basis. It will keep the engine lubricated and prevent the build-up of any dirt particles. Check the manufacturer’s instruction for the apt time to change the engine oil.

2. Updates are Vital

  • The same way this generation keeps updating their wardrobes, smartphones, and social media accounts, the same principle should be applied to their cars. Regular inspections at a certified service center ensure repairs of any damages and replacement of outdated parts. These will also help you stay informed about the latest updates in car maintenance.

3. Cleanliness is Necessary

  • This generation has perhaps travelled the most. After all, they value experiences. It makes sense to clean the car interiors after every travel-trip. Swipe all interior hard surfaces using baby wipes. Remove the carpets and vacuum them to get rid of all the dirt. Use a cleaning solution to maintain the cup holders. Moreover, a monthly refurbish of the entire car interior is a must.

4. Security is Supreme

  • While this generation is online all the time, they use antivirus programs to secure their online activities. The same goes for the cars, and the antivirus here is an insurance. For instance, a car insurance will not only secure your car against man-made and natural calamities but it will also offer a personal accident cover, a comprehensive cover for any electrical, electronic, and non-electrical fittings in the car, and a host of add-on covers.

5. Appearance Matters

  • Making an impression without any effort is what the millennial’s are good at, so should their cars. Appearance matters a lot in today’s world. Use a certified automotive touch-up paint to cover any scratches, ensure repair of rusted parts, keep the windshield clean using a sponge and cleaning liquid, and wash the car on a frequent basis. Follow these guidelines and the car will shine on those Snapchat and Instagram stories.

The above five-point guide is what will help you keep your car in the finest condition, which will also add life to your vehicle.
